Scottsdale is home to more galleries per capita than almost any other city in the United States and it makes sense that the city would be home to what they call “America’s original ArtWalk”.
Take a stroll through downtown Scottsdale on any given Thursday between 7p—9p and partake in a 30-year-old tradition. Home to more than 100 galleries, Scottsdale encourages visual arts of all types, from Southwest landscapes and Native American subjects to cutting-edge contemporary. Local galleries stay open late to show off the works of various artists. Special exhibits, artists’ receptions, and live music often coincide with this weekly event.
Along Marshall Way north of Indian School Road and Main Street south of Indian School (all west of Scottsdale Road) you’ll find plenty of art galleries and boutiques. Simply window shop or wander into the galleries for a closer look. To lead the way you’ll find “ArtWalk the Line” signs painted onto the sidewalks that wend their way through this Scottsdale Arts District.
Make an evening of it, starting with drinks and appetizers at one of the local stops like wine tasting at Su Vino Winery just east of Scottsdale Road on Main or margaritas on the patio at Dos Gringos on Marshall Way. Top off your walk with a dinner of say Mexican at Frank & Lupe’s Old Mexican on Marshall Way (a Scottsdale tradition) or Thai food at Malee’s on Main Street.
